  1. in the movie "taken" they have brought a rich Arab man who bought a kidnapped girl beside other girls to have them for his Arab boss. in this movie they have brought the Arabs as rich and just looking for girls. there is also a song called "Arab money", for the famous singer Busta rhymes, actually many singers have joined this song, they did also brought that Arabs living luxurious life and having a very empty life that have nothing other than joy and fun and spending money.

  2. From my personal experience, I have seen many kinds of stereotypes throughout Medias such as movies, magazines and even comics. For example, Asians, mostly Chinese and Japanese are most of the time portrayed as 'nerds' or 'geeks' in the West. This is due to their physical appearance like their slid eyes and skin color. Also, in the West, the white people are always considered the heroes. Like from a recent movie I watch entitled "Feast", the characters were all mix of races but at the end, only the white people survives while the others got killed by the monster.

  3. I had seen a lot of Hollywood movies which usually have the white old man as the main character, while the supporting characters are usually the blacks. In the movie, the white man are always the wealthiest, the good guys and always win at the end of the movie, the blacks are always the slaves of the white man and the most evil characters, they usually end up in jail or shot dead in the movie. But the truth is, in the present world, there are blacks who succeed in their lives and gives a lot of contributions to the community.

  4. Nowadays media really affect our life. There are many kinds of Medias around us, such as, movies, magazines and newspaper. From those media we will get many kinds of information. For example. When we saw the Cherry blossom or sushi, we will think about Japan, and when we hear the Kung Fu we will think about china! All of that information comes from media. Whether it’s correct or not, but it’s really change our mind.

  5. In all Hollywood movies they create thoughts and bad inspirations about Arab people, that’s why most of people thinks that Arab are bad people.
In Hollywood movies they present Arabs as terrorists and bad people not only in the movies but also in animation and TV series they present Arab people as bad people and that’s not right.
Evan in comedy shows they say jokes and make sarcasm about Arab. The jokes are wrong some people get some bad thought about Arab like “I’m going to blow myself” or “I’m going to kill you”.

In My opinion not all Arab people are bad and it’s not right for Hollywood to produce and to present all Arab people as being bad by nature bad.

  7. I used to watch from movie or TV channels; Chinese peoples are always good in Kung fu, it was like become a representative, Chinese = KungFu. The viewers with little knowledge about this will believe that every Chinese peoples shall know KungFu. Besides, We also believe that all African’s citizen are very poor and not educated, but the truth is not all the citizens are poor and not educated, some of the cities are full with educated and rich peoples as well. There are a lot more, for examples peoples with black skin, we will recognize them as a gangster and not educated while white skin peoples are very smart and good person.

Yes, I could not agree more. This kind of stereotyping usually depicts that the white people are superior than the blacks, which often leads to racism.

I totally agreed with what you had said. People have no right to make media that gives the world a wrong perception towards Arab. In fact, some Arabs are religious, kind and help people who are in need.

  10. To Rui:

I agree with you. Media influenced our mind to the point that certain things became a symbol of stereotyping just like when you said people think of Japan when they think cherry blossoms or China when they think of Kung Fu!

  11. Media nowadays become weapon to fight any country,in whatevery kind songs , movies , and pictures , and i think the Media war is stronger than any war , it can make all the people change their minds about something , one of the other examples that Hollywood made it is "the kingdom" movie , and all the story happens in Saudi Arabia , and they depicts Arab as a terrorists .

same thing with black American and white , and Iraq war , one more thing i think its also media war from America to Iran in the movie " Transporter " , then the actor go to his friend to find the bomb in his car , so his friend is hacker and start to talk about pentagon projects and how they plan to attack Iran , i think nowadays Iran is the country that America making media war with them , i still remember one of the ways that we attack Jewish by media ! that time team of 10 persons start to send emails and videos to Israeli people and show them what their government doing with Palestinian , and that time we were know that also the Israeli government don't show for their people whats the true , so in that time we show them the true.i think if want to write all what inside my mind it will be so long .

  12. To Han Rui: Yes, I agree with u. When we talk about certain culture for that country, we tend to connect it to something. Examples, Sushi = Japan, Hot pot = China, Pizza = Italian, Nasi Lemak = Malaysian. It was like become a trademark.

As what you said, media change our minds, and some time what they show to us was untrue. Like not all black evil, there are blacks who succeed in their lives and give a lot of contributions to the community.

  16. To Yen Yean:
i can't agree more actually, i always see that the Africans are always the poor, uneducated or the criminals in most media. which build a terrifying image for them, while the reality is not that. Media stereotypes do really affect on the people perceptions towards other.

Based on what you had mentioned above, we can tell that there are a lot of representative in the movies. For example, when we saw an object, we can be certain that those objects belongs to which country, let's say that there are lanterns and chopsticks in a movie, everyone will know that those belongs to Chinese.

  18. To Ibking:
you have a point, Hollywood shall not have this negative stereotypes for others, or at least if they want to make any movie with bad and good guys, its not a necessity that they should put the light on a specific type of people, at least make it even, so that just get to know that there are bad and good people in each and every culture.

  19. To Ibking and Rui: I agree with both of you about how media stereotypes bring to the viewers the bad impression towards certain peoples and country. As a viewers, we shall not believe 100% towards all the news or critics publish by the media.
